Propel America and BRCC Expand Partnership to Launch New Tuition-Free Medical Assistant Fellowship

We’re excited to share some big news from Louisiana: Propel America and Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) are expanding our partnership with the launch of a new, tuition-free Medical Assistant Fellowship. This program is designed to open doors for young adults looking to jumpstart a career in healthcare — without the burden of student debt.

A New Pathway Into Healthcare

This expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to creating pathways to high-quality education and good jobs without the burden of debt for young people in the Capital Region. By deepening our partnership with BRCC to launch the Medical Assistant Fellowship, we are investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals. We are ensuring they have the training, experience, and support to launch meaningful careers and meet the growing needs of our healthcare system.”
— Chad Rountree, Chief Executive Officer of Propel America

The Medical Assistant Fellowship is a 8-month (40-week) in-person training program that will take place on BRCC’s downtown Baton Rouge campus. It combines:

  • Academic coursework

  • Hands-on clinical skills labs

  • Real-world externship experience

And the best part? It’s completely tuition-free.

This program is tailored for young adults aged 18–26 who have a high school diploma or GED and are ready to launch a meaningful, stable career in the healthcare field.

Why It Matters

In Louisiana and across the country, there’s a growing need for trained healthcare professionals. At the same time, many young adults are looking for accessible, affordable ways to start a career. The Medical Assistant Fellowship helps bridge that gap.

“This expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to creating pathways to high-quality education and good jobs without the burden of debt for young people in the Capital Region,” said Chad Rountree, CEO of Propel America. “By deepening our partnership with BRCC to launch the Medical Assistant Fellowship, we are investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals. We are ensuring they have the training, experience, and support to launch meaningful careers and meet the growing needs of our healthcare system.”

The program also builds on the success of the existing Sterile Processing Technician Fellowship, another Propel America-BRCC initiative that’s already helping young adults break into the healthcare field.

Full Support From Day One

In addition to technical training, participants receive:

  • One-on-one coaching and mentorship

  • Career readiness and job search support

  • Professional skills development

After completing the program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam — a key step toward employment in hospitals, clinics, and doctors’ offices.
