Alexa Bonilla is Propel America's Senior Director of PreFellowship Programs. Alexa was born and raised in the Bronx by a single mother and was the first in her family to go to college. She began her career with Teach for America as a bilingual middle school teacher in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. She went on to teach ESOL to recent immigrant adults and later managed programs in the non-profit educational sector throughout New York City. 

She previously served as the director of enrollment for Brilla Schools Network where she led student recruitment and enrollment initiatives, and built partnerships with local communities, businesses, and government stakeholders. She also served as an associate director of enrollment at Success Academy where she was responsible for leading the recruitment for schools in the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens.

She has led programs working with adult learners and youth in underserved communities throughout her career. She has led various program initiatives by building partnerships and developing trust with local communities, businesses, and government stakeholders.

Alexa holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Cornell University and attended Hunter College for a Master's in Urban Affairs.  She is passionate about educational & disability equity and access.

Alexa is a 2023 recipient of Schneps Media’s Latin Impact Awards for her community leadership.
